Exceptional Children's Program

The NC Teacher of Excellence Award for exceptional children's (EC) educators is presented annually by the NC Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI) at the State Conference on Exceptional Children to recognize outstanding teachers who work with students with disabilities. Nominees are recognized for their leadership, innovative programs, and positive student outcomes. Throughout her tenure, Ms. Foushee has consistently demonstrated a positive and proactive attitude. She has never complained about challenges or setbacks but has instead focused on finding solutions and advocating for her student's needs. Her unwavering optimism and resilience have been an inspiration to her school's administration, colleagues and students alike. When our district faced vacancies in a certified EC teacher position, Ms. Foushee stepped up without hesitation to provide interim classroom support with paperwork and compliance, all while continuing to serve her heavy caseload of students. She also volunteered to directly serve students in various childcare settings to support her colleagues who were overwhelmed with a high case load to make sure all students received their appropriate services. Furthermore, she has consistently gone above and beyond her job duties, taking on extra responsibilities to ensure the success of our special education programs. Ms. Foushee's dedication to ensuring that students receive uninterrupted, high-quality instruction is a testament of her commitment to our students.
We believe that Ms. Foushee is truly deserving of the EC Teacher of Excellence Award. Her exceptional teaching skills, unwavering commitment to students, and positive contributions to our district make her an outstanding candidate for this prestigious honor.
