West Oxford Owl for January 9, 2026

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2026! I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing break. Last year, I decided to make an effort to put my phone down and read more books for fun. I met that goal this year, and have set a new one for this year. I hope you will do the same. Granville County Schools are running a new reading incentive program, and I can't wait to have everyone participate by tracking your reading on your own reading logs.

We are over halfway through the school year, and this week we celebrated student accomplishments at our first semester awards day. Congratulations to all of of our award winners!

Today we recognized our amazing SRO, Deputy Gallop on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. We are thankful for the many ways he keeps us safe!

Mark your calendar for these upcoming events!
  • iReady testing will take place this week. Please encourage your students to do their very best on these assessments. We can't wait to see how much they have grown!
  • There is no school on January 19th.
  • PTO Bingo Night is January 23rd.
  • Parent Conferences will take place on January 29th.
  • Weather permitting, please join us for our Growth Parade on January 30th at 1:45.

If your student in in third, fourth or fifth grade, we would love for them to participate in the Rhythm and Movement afterschool club provided by the Granville Arts Council! This group will start January 13th and will meet from 3:15-4:15 in the cafeteria. Sign up on Parent Square.

We love celebrating our owls! To ensure we maximize our learning minutes, we recognize birthdays over the morning announcements rather than with in-class parties. If you wish to share a treat with the class for your child's birthday, please send in individual bags that we can place in student backpacks to be enjoyed at home.

It’s FLU Season! We need you to help Keep Our School Healthy! If your child has a fever, flu-like symptoms, or is feeling sick or unwell please keep them home to protect students and staff. Students should be fever-free (without medicine) for 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy!
