West Oxford Owl for May 1, 2026

It's hard to believe that it is already May. Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! We have an incredible staff of teachers who invest in our students, who see their potential, who create exciting opportunities for learning, and build strong classroom communities. I am honored to be a part of this team, and I hope you join me in showering them with our appreciation this week. Please find a day to send in a card, some student art, flowers, or a special treat to your teacher.

It is assessment season, and while that can be stressful, it is also an incredibly joyful season as we celebrate all your child has learned this year. We see students in kindergarten jump from red to blue. We see students jumping twenty points from one NC Check In to another. We see other students show two years worth of growth on their iReady assessments. As we move into K-2 math assessments and EOG, we want to make sure we are celebrating each student for their own growth along the way.

We have all kinds of exciting events coming up this week and next!
  • Our students will be performing at Culture Fest on May 9th at 10:45 downtown.
  • The EOGs will be May 12th, 13th, and 14th.
  • Awards assemblies will take place on May 19th (K at noon, 1st at 12:45, 2nd at 1:30) and 20th (PreK at 10, 4th at 12:45, 3rd at 1:30). Fifth grade promotion is May 22nd at 11:00.
  • Our final growth parade is May 22nd at 9:00.

It is enrollment season! All students enrolling in kindergarten can do so online here or come by the office for an enrollment packet.

I always find that May is a full month with sports and end of year events. Please take time to slow down with your children, making sure you find time for independent reading and rest. I checked out a new book to read tomorrow as I'm hoping for a rainy Saturday.

See you Monday morning!
