Welcome back to West Oxford! It was good to see so many smiling faces at Open House this week. I hope everyone enjoyed their new books. We are ready to learn and grow with each of you this year!
Our top priority this year is writing. We are continuing to decrease classroom reliance on technology. Students will have minimal technology in K-2 and tech free days on Mondays and Tuesdays. We will write across content areas, and use writing to respond to our reading. I know your students are reading every day at home for twenty minutes, and we encourage you to keep a log where they write reflections on their books. If you kept your summer reading log, please turn it in this week!
The first day of school is August 10th! We can't wait to see you when doors open at 7:20. Class starts at 7:45. Dismissal is at 2:55. Parents are welcome to walk their students to class on the first day. Kindergarten parents have received a postcard with your staggered entry information.
Parents are welcome to walk their students to class on the first day. Please park on the Ivey Day side if you are walking your child in. Please drop off only on the Roxboro Road side. This ensures that students stay safe.
You are welcome to pick up on either side of the parking lot at 2:55, but please do not exit your vehicle. Make sure your car number is visible in the windshield. We will load your child in the car. We will not call students to be picked up early after 2:25. Please make sure your child's teacher knows how they will be going home. All transportation changes need to go through the front office before noon.
If your child is riding the bus, please be at the stop 15 minutes early, as bus routes can shift a bit the first few weeks.
Our PTO meets on August 11th at 6:00 in the media center. We would love to have you join us as we plan for the year!
PreK will begin their staggered entry on Wednesday, August 12th.
Food and drink may not be delivered to school by an outside vendor or by a student's parent(s), guardian, relative, or friend due to federal rules. Any food items provided for a class celebration should be commercially prepared and individually wrapped (when possible) and meet Smart Snack guidelines.
We are excited to see you on the first day of school! Have a great weekend!
